Our Veterans in Nature’s Service (VINS) Employee Resource Group is proud to spotlight three recent SkillBridge interns for their outstanding contributions:

Ange Adamski

After returning to Washington, DC, Ange transitioned from a military career to nonprofit work, aiming to build project management skills and learn conservation by design, MEL, and Power BI. She played a key role in the strategy review process—organizing action items, drafting communications, and facilitating workshops on topics like Chesapeake Bay, extreme precipitation, and urban heat. Ange supported climate and energy strategies, developed a Theory of Change worksheet, and created dashboards to identify scalable urban forestry partnerships. Her Power BI work visualized relationships, tracked progress, and highlighted funding gaps, enabling data-driven decisions. Through collaboration and innovation, Ange laid a strong foundation for future planning and reinforced her commitment to driving meaningful change.

Cira Ortiz

Cira, an Army captain and logistician with a passion for environmental work, used her SkillBridge internship to gain hands-on experience before starting a master’s in Environmental Management. She developed a Smartsheet resource management tool for TNC’s Natural Climate Solutions Accelerator, saving $10,000 annually and enabling data-driven workload planning across 25 projects. Beyond technical contributions, Cira translated her military leadership skills into the nonprofit space, refined her professional toolkit, and discovered her preference for a generalist role combining strategy and operations. The experience gave her clarity, confidence, and a renewed commitment to aligning work with values.

Dannie Kerfeld

During Dannie’s SkillBridge internship, they led two major initiatives: refreshing the VINS Connect site and delivering the ROOTS Project. The site redesign improved usability with a clean layout, hero images, and new features like the Military Spouse Mobility Hub, transforming it into an interactive resource. The ROOTS Project addressed challenges for military spouse employees by creating a roadmap, resource hub, and policy recommendations to support relocations. These efforts enhanced accessibility, engagement, and retention, reflecting TNC’s commitment to equity and inclusion.
